New Year intro and Patreon plans
Roadman today I want to talk about three ways to kickstart your 2022 New Year resolutions. Let's Q not intro! The big question is this. How do we use cycling as a tool to improve our health, our happiness and our long-term commitment? That is the question on this podcast will give you video answers. My name is Anthony Welch and welcome to the Rowman Podcast. Rowman, welcome back the second podcast of 2022. Also, we're up to podcast, I think this is episode number 351, which is, yeah, it's difficult for me to comprehend that I've sat down and record 351 podcasts. I've recorded them from all over the place. It would have been good to keep a little log of the various places. I've recorded them. But the good chunk of the time, it's been in this little home studio. And yeah, it's been an emotional roller coaster. I'm reflecting a little bit on it today, as I'm sure everyone else is in, reflective mood at the start of the new year and looking back on what went well, what didn't go so well, seeing where we can make tweaks to the course, much like a ship sale across the sea, where can we make tweaks? Today I want to talk to you about three little tweaks which I think are almost guaranteed to get your 2022 off to a winner. Three really simple tweaks but I feel like if you have a goal to be better this year, to transform yourself this year, to progress this year and yesterday's podcast we talked about progression and how you can make progression tangible this year and moving away from the sort of wishy, washy resolutions and moving more towards a system where we have a vision for ourselves, a compelling vision. And I talk about the steps to achieve that vision. And that's a good podcast to go back and listen to. It's a really nice way to kick off the new year. But today I want to talk about these three tangible steps to make these resolutions a reality and just really things you can get started on right now which are tangible and actionable. Before I dive into that, I did say I was going to have a big push on Patreon this year and I'm going to start announcing Patreon only podcast, Patreon only. We're bringing out the Roman cycling kit in the next week and the kit has been much anticipated. We rolled the kit out for a training camp in Jirona a couple a month ago and we had just a couple of myself and a couple of other Reuters who were a trial in the kit, demoing various different fabrics and stuff like that, just testing them out in a training camp environment to see if they were holding up and were super happy with the results. But one of the benefits of being a Patreon will be early access to stuff like that. So we will reveal all the other perks and benefits. But if you want to support Patreon, it's literally the price of a beer once a month to support the patreon and it's over on patreon.com forward slash Anthony underscore watch. Okay number one thing I want you to get going on straight away it's we all hear this idea of a cleanse in January but what does that really mean and how do you get started with a cleanse? Well for me an invaluable step in getting started in January on the Roy Ford is to cleanse your kitchen so that means just getting rid of all the crap and the shit out of your fridge and out of your cupboards. And you might be thinking watch it. And look, I know if I have to think about my cupboards and the stuff I threw out and it does break my heart a little bit because you go through orders kids on the streets, not eating the nine chowin out boxes of sweets and biscuits.
Cleanse the kitchen and book the event
But realistically it was me that was going to eat them biscuits and sweets, not the kids on the street. So get rid of all the shit out of your fridge and out of your cupboards. I'm talking to biscuits the cake, the frairoirrorochet, the fizzy drinks, the alcohol, anything that's not as close to nature as possible. So you're looking at keeping veg, you're looking at keeping fruits, you're looking at keeping fresh sources of protein, all the other stuff, all that other crap, get rid of it and let's get down to business. So that's step one, it's the cleanse the kitchen. Step two is the book and event. What is your target event? Lock it in, let's book it. You know what you're talking about, this is your goal for this year. Let's put your money where your mail it is and book that target event. You know, are you heading off to do an Ironman this year over in Spain? Book the flights, register for the Ironman. Are you thinking of doing a big epic in the Pyrenees? Get it locked in, get it booked. And as a secondary step to that, tell people you have it booked. Because there's a shame that comes with, I can't think of any other word on the shame. There's a shame that comes with bookin' somethin'. Tellin' people you're gonna book it, and then, damn knowing that you didn't do that event, but not also that you didn't do the event, but you wasted your money on bookin' flights, booking accommodation, paying for an event that you never went to. There's a crippling shame that comes with that. Harnest is crippling shame, and you use it to work towards you. And the toward really important thing I think you can do to get crackin' on the Royal Fort this year, almost guarantee your success. It's working with a coach and it doesn't have to be necessary. This isn't a shameless pitch for you know, roadman. You know, obviously we have a, you know, a variety of boy coaches from, you know, racing coaches to sportive coaches to try out one coaches, but it doesn't have to be working with us. It's the, it's the principle of working with a coach because when you're working with a coach, you have somebody in in your corner. You know, when we're not 16 years old anymore, we don't have that many people in our corner that we pick the phone up to every single day and they know everything intimately that's going on in our lives. Most of us are living a life where we're hanging out with our partner, we're working and we're trying to balance our training and it can be a lonely enough existence. But having the coach is somebody in your corner, but it's also somebody, I was chatting to client earlier on and just this this idea of we need to learn from mistakes but they don't need to be error mistakes is just to the forefront of my head now because when I was getting started I wasted so much time and what I was effectively dealing with was tram punches in the dark and hoping that one of them landed. I was a student and I didn't have any cash so what I would do is I immerse myself in research and I find out and go okay from loaded periodization that's what I I need to be doing and I go out and I do a block of front load of periodization until I read the next paper and I go, oh, it's a different type of reverse periodization. It's tweaked slightly different. This is what I need to do. And I go and do that and I just make mistake after mistake after mistake and I run down these blind alleys. Someone will cost me a month. Someone will cost me six months. Someone will cost me a season.
Hire a coach to shortcut progress
But I basically engaged in this long drawn out game of trial and error. And you don't have to do that because somebody else has made these mistakes for you. Once you're working with a coach, he's going to say to you, don't do this, do that. And that's going to short cut you, 12 months, 18 months, whatever it is. And you can't get that time back. Money is this renewable resource. Once we spend it, it comes back to us at the end of the month. Time, once we spend it, it's gone forever. So it's so important to protect that time. So folks, I think if you start off 2022 and you commit to cleansing your house and your fridge right now, getting rid of all the shit, getting rid of the junk food, the alcohol, get it out of your life. You don't need it. It's not serving you and it's not serving your goals. Get rid of that. Lock in your target event. Book them. Make plans, even if it's a domestic event. You have time booked off work. You have accommodation booked. Have you told people about it and work with a coach. Stop doing this alone. You know, we have coaching plans starting from as little as two euro and then we've eight week challenges which are like 149, you're over eight weeks and then we move on to the one-on-one stuff. It's not expensive. This is within everybody's reach. So if you're looking to get started on a coaching plan, you can pop us an email. It's on admin at roadmanascycling.com and we're going to hook you up. But regardless of whether it's us or whether it's another coaching company, I highly encourage that. Implement those three steps, folks. If you haven't listened to yesterday's podcast, go back and listen to that one. Order than that. Yeah, I'm happy to be kicking off the the new year with two podcasts on the bounce and loads more plans to scale up the podcast this year.
