The Four Thieves Plague Remedy
Roadman, today I want to talk to you about how to reduce the lent and the severity of illness. Let's cue that intro! The big question is this. How do we use cycling as a tool to improve our health, our happiness and our longevity? That is the question and this podcast will give you the answers. My name is Anthony Walsh and welcome to the Roadman Podcast. roadman welcome back to another roadman cycling podcast thanks for tuning in today I wanted to talk to you about how to reduce the severity and the length of illness we're talking head calls chest infections man flu all that type stuff and the reason why I'm bringing up this topic is a bit under the weather I'm a bit under the weather the last of whether the last few days are at a full duvet day yesterday and I can't remember the last time that I got sick. I must be two, three years ago. I've had some like 24 hour or 12 hour type stomach bugs of a dickie tummy from time to time but properly down with man flu. It's been yeah easily three years. So negative COVID test so it is a confirmed case of man flu. I want to talk to you about three remedies for reducing the severity of illness and the likelihood that you're going to get us and how long it lasts. Before I do, obviously my background is coaching and my background is law. I'm not a doctor, so you know, take stuff with a pinch of salt, yadda yadda, disclaimer. I want to tell you a story to start. I love stories and whether this one is true or not, it's brilliant. I'm not sure if you've heard about this remedy. It's called the four thieves. So it's back in the 16th century in the Black Plague, the bubonic plague was gone around. There was a band of four thieves and they were running rampage and their kind of MO was they were breaking into the homes of people who had just passed away from the bubonic plague and they were rubbing the victims. They were completely fleecing their body of watches, jewelry, money, clothing, anything they could have. Now you've got to remember this plague was, you know, think you're a delta scuriant and multiplied up by a hundred. This was believed to be one of the most contagious plagues of all time, but they never caught the plague. The spies repeated exposure to it. They were eventually caught and brought the trial for their crimes. Police hunted them down or brought them to the king who delivered justice back in the day and he offered them a reduced sentence if they were to divulge their secrets how they avoided catching this plague. Well, as you can imagine, they didn't fancy life in prison, so they accepted his offer. And now this recipe has been passed down from generation to generation. Whether that story is true or not, I don't know, but I love it. There's a great little bit of romanticism around it. Now science has caught up and validated this little recipe as, I suppose for one of the better term, alternative. Anything to pharmaceutical aid seems alternative. You know, exercise, fresh air, cold therapy, eating well is alternative medicine. So I find that a lot of medical practitioners like to put the tag alternative on it, to downplay or diminish the role that we play in our own hilt and instead take that responsibility for our own hilt and put it over to a torrid party, drugs companies, big pharma, like they're going to look after our hilt and our well-being.
Vitamin C and Melatonin Combo
So I wouldn't rubbish this just because it's alternative. I've not tried it myself, I will be trying it, but looking online and chatting to biohackers who I trust believe, this is a very, very effective remedy. So you're going to need your pen and paper and they'll pry on if you're in Ireland. We're going to go with 35 drops of lemon essential oil. We're going to go with 20 drops of cinnamon leaf essential oil, 15 drops of clove board essential oil, 15 drops of eucalyptus essential oil, 10 drops of rosemary essential oil. I'll just copy and paste this into the description below. So what you do is you add all the essential oils into a 5 milliliter bottle and then you're going to diffuse it and you're going to put it on the tongue. You can even clean with it, add it into the laundry, add it into household cleaners and it's just straight out, unbelievable or so to tailgulls. That's the four teaves. I want to give you three remedies. The next one is you're probably known for years. vitamin C, ascorbogastid as they would have taught us back in school. Now, ascorbogastid in the lower doses has been shown to do, dick all, like the amount that you have in your multivitamin. If you want to get some effects at shortening the severity or mitigating the effects of a cold, you're going to need to hit a 1000 milligrams of vitamin C per day. And this is effective in studies at preventing colds from developing, especially in people who have low vitamin C levels. So you're going to need to hit it tells milligrams of vitamin C a day for the duration of that cold. That's obviously, you know, that's famed for its antiviral activity compounds. But one thing I didn't know when I was researching this is if you mix vitamin C and melatonin, like think in a Kiwi, that's the perfect way to get it. So perfect dessert after dinner because Kiwi will stimulate the production of melatonin, which as we know, or we should know from Matt Walker's book helps us get to sleep at night. So, this combination of vitamin C and melatonin has showed to have a very powerful immunobusting effect on the body. So get your key ways into you just before bed. And the last one, there's all sorts of recipes from egg in this, but I actually just buy a pre-bought one and I do do this. There's a brilliant 2016 study that showed that elderberry supplementation can vastly reduce the duration and the symptoms of cold. There was another study that found when elderberry extracts used within the 48 hours of the The onset of cold or flu like symptoms shortens the duration by up to four days. So there you go, roadman. I plow through this one. I sucked it up. I didn't get a podcast out yesterday. I was feeling rightly under the weather. I'll see how this one develops over the next few days.
