Hello, roadman. Welcome back today
Hello, roadman. Welcome back today. I want to talk to you about a simple concept, simple, but it could change your life. I call it discipline equals freedom. Let's kill the intro. The big question is this. How do we use cycling as a tool to improve our health, our happiness, and our longevity? That is the question on this podcast, and give you the answers. My name is Anthony Walsh and welcome to the Roadman Podcast. Welcome back, Roadman. We're another Roadman short-form Bites podcast. I hope everybody enjoyed their weekend. Today, what I want to talk to you about is a simple concept. It's something I've long practiced, but it was just recently that I put a tag on it. I was listening to an interview with a popular public speaker, a lot of you will have heard him, Jocko Wilick. And he had this phrase, he's an ex-US Marine or Navy Seal, I don't really know the difference. He's badass basically is what I'm talking about. He's a great public speaker, he should listen to him, he has his own podcast as well, post a picture of his watch every morning at like 4am, bit bizarre, but look, probably not worth a follow on Instagram for that reason. But he has this concept that he calls discipline equals freedom. Something I've practiced for years and I want to dive in and talk about it today because it's at the core of success in cycling. Before I jump in and talk about that, I briefly want to say thank you for everyone that's subscribed so far on Patreon and if you haven't subscribed, jump on over to patreon.com forward slash Antony underscore waltz. Please take action on that because it truly is the lifeblood that keeps this podcast coming to you day in, day out. So I know that corporate life, it's absolutely sucking the oxygen from your fire, like you're sitting in an office and you're probably just slowly dying inside your decaying. Honestly, we just weren't meant for this stationary cubicle life. Just getting baited and blue light stuck on a chair, looking at a screen. Like we're ancestral, we should be out, we should be hunting, we should be chasing things, killing things, moving. Like that's part of what's killing people, also, the other part, inside physically that's killing us and we're decaying. but mentally as well, like we're pretending to be someone we're not all day long. We're talking in this bullshit corporate speak language where we're just not being ourselves. Like who are you when nobody's around is a question I often ask and the closer or who are you with your closest friends or family? That version of yourself, the closer you can be to that in every walk of your life, the happier you're going to be. And in this bullshit corporate setting, It's the caner body physically and then this shit's the caner mind.
They're turning us into a robot
Like they're turning us into a robot. And I think that the most effective way we can rebel against this culture of decay. It's getting ahead physically. It's not only just mitigating the damage that our corporate life is causing us, it's going on the other side of it. It's excelling physically and it's excelling mentally. And how we do that, it's discipline. And for us, our vehicle for it's cycling and I see it week in, week out with our clients, the transformers for effect from people that are stuck in this crazy road and when you get them and you put discipline on them and they show up day after day, week after week, month after month. Their body changes, but their mind changes. Like today I want to talk to you about that aspect of discipline because 90% of this gig, a lot of this podcast we talk about tactics and zones and tweaking macro nutrients of our diet but honestly a big chunk of this gig it's just shown up consistently. Maybe you didn't get today's session perfect but if you're on this journey and this quest for knowledge it's taking into this podcast maybe it'll take you into one of our coaching programs. That's what you need it's that growth mindset but to start in point it's just shown up day after day, if you have a bad workout today, if you have a shit workout, don't worry about it, just show up tomorrow. The biggest, biggest number one mistake I see people making and I hear from people is they only want to work out when they're feeling good. Like there has to be days when you actually just push through, you say, you know what the hell with how I'm feeling, this is what I do now, I'm a cyclist and I just, I'm gonna push through. There's gonna be days when you wake up, like, is there days when I wake up and I have a headache and I don't want to try and yeah absolutely. Is there days when I wake up and I look at the wind on it's rain and I don't want to try and absolutely. Is there days when I'm just feeling off because of slip so poorly? Absolutely. You're all going to have your own excuses. They're going to be deadlines and work. They're going to be kids. But you need to push through. And there's a great pride that you can take from when you do push through and you come out the other side of that. Like literally every single rider I know that's any good, any client we have at A1 Coach that is accomplishing their goals. You know what, true cycling, I've been looking enough that it's opened up these amazing doors and I've got to know entrepreneurs all over the world who've exceeded your wildest dreams in terms of the level of achievements, personal growth and company growth they've had.
Every single one of them, they have that in common that they've…
But every single one of them, they have that in common that they've pushed through when they had a reason not to push through. And that's my message to you today because it's that discipline, that mental discipline that's going to give you the ultimate freedom. It's going to stop your physical decay and it's going to stop your mental decay. Even the discipline that I have around this podcast, like it's five days a week now. Is there days when I get up and I'm like, oh, you know what, I don't have a topic. I don't, I'm not sure what I'm going to talk about. You know, maybe four in a week is fine. There's a discipline and there's a satisfaction with known. It's for me as much as it's for you. It's exercising that muscle because discipline is a muscle. And when you build this positive momentum, it's easier to to heap momentum on top of it. And that's why we look at some people and we think, holy shit, how does that person get so much done in a day? Because it's positive momentum, compounding on positive momentum. But I'm telling you, I've been on the other side and I've worked with clients that are on the other side with bad momentum also compounds. If you're not working out, if you're lazy, if you're letting that corporate culture like decay your body and decay your mind, you're coming home from work and you're flicking on Netflix and you're eating shit food, that's gonna compound and you're gonna get fatder, You're gonna get lazier, you're gonna have, as I call it, the sloid, the mental sloid where you're just getting down on yourself and it leads into a place that's honestly no good, leads into a place of regress, depression, and sometimes even worse. The key to get out of this, the key to taking back control in this crazily sick society in which we live, it's discipline. And I'm gonna leave you on this quote because when I look around and I see, you know, people stuck in jobs, they hate driving cars, they can't afford to house us to oppress their neighbors. I remember a quote and I actually can't even remember, someone's going to hit me up on an Instagram DM and remember and give me the author of this quote but it's been well adjusted to a sick society is not a measure of health. Roadmen, I'm going to leave you with that one today. Hopefully this Monday Motivation podcast was food for Todd. I'm updating roadmanresources.com every single day, every time I find something good, I'm showing it in there. So do check back there regularly and I'm going to chat you tomorrow. Enjoy your week, roadman.
