FRC (FUNCTIONAL RESERVE CAPACITY)

A WKO5-specific metric representing the anaerobic work capacity above FTP. Conceptually similar to W' but calibrated differently.

FRC is TrainingPeaks / WKO5's implementation of anaerobic capacity, derived from mean maximal power analysis across rides. Typical FRC values range from 10-20 kJ. FRC differs from W' in its calculation method (mean-maximal curve fitting vs Critical Power model) but serves the same function: quantifying the battery above threshold. Sprinters and cyclocross racers train to maximise FRC; time triallists and sportive riders optimise CP/FTP and accept a moderate FRC. FRC depletes faster when rides stack repeated above-threshold efforts — important context for interpreting big-day fatigue.
