IF (INTENSITY FACTOR)

The ratio of Normalised Power to FTP (NP/FTP). IF = 1.0 means you rode at your FTP. IF = 0.75 means an endurance ride. IF > 1.0 means you exceeded your FTP on average.

IF is useful for pacing events and comparing efforts. A well-paced 100km sportive might target IF 0.70-0.80. A 40km time trial targets IF 0.95-1.05. IF above 1.0 for sustained efforts suggests your FTP needs retesting (it's probably higher). Developed by Dr Andrew Coggan as part of the TSS framework.
