PYRAMIDAL TRAINING

Intensity distribution: most time in zone 1-2, moderate in zone 3, less in zone 4+. Forms a pyramid shape when plotted.

Where polarised is 80/0/20, pyramidal is roughly 75/15/10. Research shows similar outcomes for most athletes. Many World Tour teams use pyramidal during base phases, then shift toward polarised during race blocks. For amateurs, the practical difference is small — both beat the 'all zone 3' default.
