THRESHOLD (ZONE 4)

Training at 91-105% of FTP. The highest intensity a cyclist can sustain for approximately 40-60 minutes. The primary zone for building time-trial fitness.

Threshold sits at or just above FTP and represents the boundary between sustainable and unsustainable effort. Classic threshold sessions: 2x20 minutes at 95-100% FTP. This zone builds the ability to sustain race-pace power for extended periods. Too much threshold work without adequate recovery leads to overtraining — the polarised model limits it to ~20% of total training time.
