Hello you beautiful cycling fans, welcome back at stage 16 and it was…
Hello you beautiful cycling fans, welcome back at stage 16 and it was our final special horse category for those French speakers. Stage of this year's Vuelta aspania. Served up a little bit of drama, a little bit of predictability and some odd team tactics. So let's jump in and unpack it. Before we get started, I want to give honourable note as always to our Vuelta sponsor heading into the last week now missing piece. So guys get there dig in for the last week. Last rest day is tomorrow and then they're gonna be with us until Madrid and Someday and then we will bid our deals to missing piece as our show sponsor and thank them very much for their contribution to us over the Vuelta contribution that has seen us get a little bit better hosting equipment, some improvements in our audio, hopefully you'll notice by some of you guys not notice by others, but it's much appreciated. So if you don't know by now, missing piece, there are custom beast bulk company out of Donegal. They do beautiful pieces like picture frames that insert them together together like a jigsaw puzzle. So you buy one for the christening and have it engraved as christening by one for the first step, one for the first day at school and you start building out a pretty cool story board of your kids memories and it's a really cool gift. Also I'm in love with the chopping board, which I have here so they're running the competition during the Vuelta. I'm going to pop a link down below in the show notes if you tell us what Colored Leaders jersey is in the Vuelta. They're going to hook you up. Okay let's go. So we had it was the last time we're going to do a special, That's the horse category climb in this year as well. That's not to say that the climb is entirely finished, it's not. But yeah, it's the last real, you know, notoriously steep delta climbs which are famous and rip the legs off. Everyone I'm sure are getting wearing a little bit tired on the peloton, this deep into the race. So it's always a funny one the day before a rest day because it's kind of light a bit like the last day at school. Everybody's in a slightly dusting mood and I can even feel that now or half of the day off the podcast tomorrow. There's a there's definitely a freedom more out, a slight liberation that comes with that feeling. You could see it in the Peloton early, they were a little bit giddy or the normal even though it was a serious stage and it was a bit of joking around the Peloton but the joke and certainly stopped when they hit that final climb and it was a big break. Some of our you or a breakaway specialist, we had Philip Gilbert in there, we Thomas the Ghent in there, but when it really started going hard towards the end, we had Jakob Thugel saying we teal Gegenhart, we had Luis Leon Sanchez, we James Knox who stood to benefit the mokes and we had Gianluca Brambilla. And they were definitely the strongest in the group. Knox had the mokes to gain because he was 18th on GC, heading into today. So a big move from him to be in that move. It's a funny place when you're like 18th on GC because you are given that bit of leeway teams aren't gonna chase you but you still don't get into the break for free as we talked about yesterday it is hard racing to get in there. Looking around the bunch today anyone check out Vavirte's song glasses he definitely has the coolest song glasses in the bunch. I'm not sure what brand they are if anyone knows they might pop me a comment on Instagram and let me know they're so cool. Order Instagram news like a lot of you guys seem to engage through Instagram, the DMs, you're sliding into those DMs. Or if you're in the west of Orland, you just add kind of a, instead of sliding, it's more pronounced, sloidin', to sloidin' to someone's DMs. So if someone sloids into your DMs, they're notably from the west of Orland. So, yeah, I had a physio from a world tour team on to me and he is potentially gonna come on as a podcast guest talking about the injury we seen yesterday a teacher rider who looked like his local butcher stitched him up. He's gonna come on and explain to us about wound care on the stage and how they treated.
If in fact that was a dodgy looking stitched job or if that's a…
If in fact that was a dodgy looking stitched job or if that's a stitched job that's just functional, that it gives the stitches a little bit around to expand through the pedal stroke. I'm not sure so he'll shed a bit of light on that and a bit of wound care in general, which I'm sure many of us riders can benefit from is on a long enough timeline. if you're riding you are gonna hit the deck and the tarmac. I'm watching power now at the moment and you know what I'm saying is you know a bullet's forever. The tarmac's not quite forever but yeah definitely it's consistent. It hurts every time you hit the tarmac. Speaking from a man who's hit the tarmac on enough occasions it's over every time so a little bit of wound management is always a good thing. to you guys about the magic mug that I've been talking about. This idea of how we form habits in our habit loop. And it's really cool because we use a lot of our clients and I use personally for building a lot of new habits. And I'm pretty close to putting a big shift yesterday even. I'm pretty close to actually getting this out. I could even have it out on the next day of all the video content recorded for us. So I'm basically just giving away a mug. It's more complicated than you think to give stuff away, so you're not giving it away to a time waster, so I Will hopefully have news for that in the next day or two where I'm gonna give you guys away mugs You got to cover the postion packing because I'm not an absolute baller and I don't have that money But I am gonna charge for the mugs and mugs are free cover the postion packing and it's yours And it's common to you with a split with that set of instructions that you'll see in the video and the instructions are how to form this positive feedback loop where we have the different elements to it where we have the catalyst which is the mug, the habit which is training under award so I talked to you about how to use those to build it so each time you see the mug you don't actually need to expend motivation anymore it's an automatic response it's just going to train and it's really cool it's really powerful automating that stuff so we don't get decision making fatigue is super powerful gonna have that in the next couple of days I'm gonna go out and I'll promise you That's all I could cross course is well under construction as well and that should be here this week I've torn up the gas and I won the last few weeks. It's the Vuelta show sponsor It's the show sponsor, but it's also the daily show It takes a lot of time, but it builds this huge momentum and a massive flavor and momentum It's a beast when you get momentum rolling It's it's powerful and we're rolling into the winter and I'm rolling into you know as I said to you guys are You've got the big heads up onto our own into a lot more of the boyo hacking content intermittent fasting, phthroidbion modulation, using aids like evangelistic CBD oil for sleep and keto supplements and we're going into a lot of that deeper science in the podcast and A1 in general come October so you as a first to know about that but let's get back to the Vuelta I diverge like Billy Conley on off on stories with Yumbo there were a riding tempo on the last climb And for one point I did think that a stand out had almost given up hope in Lopez They lost faith in him that maybe he'd given the card and lads to say You know what go on the break fugel sang and lose Leon Sanchez in the break He needed them back the road if we were to we talked about this Yes, they do idea for the man in the break But if you're not it hasn't been done with it scouring any else and if you're not a Full believer in your GC. Oh, it makes sense And that's what it smells of for a standard for me They don't believe Lopez can pull off the win overall. So they're starting to hunt for stages and you know That's exactly what they got today. They had got the stage true fugelsang He pressed on and be able to follow Tio almost got across for a point But fugelsang interestingly in the fugelsang which means bird song I did not know it's fugelsang's first grand tour stage It just seems like because he's one lee out and he's been around for so long that he's won a bunch of stuff But he hasn't anyway, but listen to this for a cruel tactic.
He said on the climb he knew Teos coming across so he waited till Teo…
He said on the climb he knew Teos coming across so he waited till Teo got close because he knew he was going to use a lot of power getting close and then when he got close he went full to absolutely bury him. So that's what he done and he wasn't caught and I think he came in with about a 20 second margin on his own in the end. Great win for a Fugelstein, a great win for the Stanatime. Back to the Roars, the drama was going on. Well actually before I get to the drama we had Teo coming in second And let's debate that for a second because Tio was second today and he was toward yesterday. So I'm gonna go out and I'm gonna call that a bit of a Fred Milve. Not a bit of a Fred Milve, I'm not gonna sit on the fence. Second and toward is Fred. Like we won't get into how he wears the helmet because it's comical but irrelevant. Second and toward on the stage is yesterday and today it's a Fred Milve but to say Fred it's more of an inexperienced Milve. Now again, very easy for me to be the armchair critic, you know, second and toward Eichol and Bull second toward on a Vuelta stage So but this is what we do and none of us can but we still get to speculate we still have a voice because we love the sport And if he sits up yesterday Maybe he wins today if he goes all in for yesterday Maybe he wins yesterday, but this kind of sitting on the fence between the two stages Like it's not just looking at yesterday and today We are looking at the other stages where he held on for like 11th on a stage where he's coming in like 40 seconds down Instead of 14 minutes down. It's you see the good riders that know their bodies and know how to win like Gilbert He's other winning or he's out the back. It's about conservation of energy and Teoh hasn't quite figured that out Yeah, like I'm sure looking back if you ask him in two weeks time Are you happy with second and toward he'll go yes second and towards not bad but if you say would you trade second and toward for a a stage win, yeah he's gonna try second and third for a stage win all day long so a little bit disappointed for Tio because I do quite like that I don't know I'm super well but I like a lot to watch and he's an aggressive rider we Sanchez rolling in and toward and we had Knox who's the big gainer gain over five minutes on GC and fourth place back the road we Lopez attacking with pogacarr glue film because that Jungroid and listen to this how how close how good a roider do you have to be to win the Jungroider competition now pogacarr is tord and low-pass is fort you need to hit a podium in a grand tour to get the Jungroider award that is nuts i'm going to interject briefly i'm going to talk to you about our second second shell sponsor it's clickfunnels clickfunnels is the software that lets me get out and ride my my bike during the day because it just gives me so much free time back as a business owner. It's a chinese a good bunch of lads The clickfunnels are a good bunch of lads. Yeah, so we pocket car and he was glued to Lopez and for me, it looks like pocket car has the best legs in the race at the moment. Valverde has dropped. So it's pocket car, rug-litch, Lopez. They're combining. pocket car is lucky enough to have my most hider rotor in the bunch of Valerio County up the road.
He drops back and he does the road and so pocket car takes 20 odd…
So he drops back and he does the road and so pocket car takes 20 odd seconds out of Valverde, what's Valer riding for him? It's a great road from Pogakar, he's edging closer to second place, we go Slovenian 1-2 on GC, that will be pretty cool. So we have Roglage leading at the moment, Valverde, he's still second at 2-48, Pogakar at 3-42 so he's closing that gap with Lopla as a 3-59, that's unchanged in the battle for the young rotor, we've Mike, a leaping Quintana, he's at 7-40 and now we've cantana at 743 so it's gonna be it's gonna be pretty toys I can't see cantana gone any direction only backwards so I think Moike has that locked up in a fifth. Pogakar and Lopez from me is the real battle I don't see Roglitz changing I don't see either or anyone else being a bet I've tracked the top step of the podium like Vavirdi typically the wheels do come off from him in the third week you know could Pogakar potentially take second place. You could still see Vavirde finishing off the podium here but for me the interest in battles are that second to fort and how that's going to be decided. It's going to be Vavirde, Poggakar Lopez, but in what order? I'm not sure if I was guessing now I'm going to say it will be Roglich Poggakar Lopez. I think Vavirde will crack despite my best or submission to start that I think Vavirde is good value for a podium. Vavirde, look, I gave you these in the first podcast of the Vuelta. I told you in each way that I bet on Valverde, I think he was 13 to 1, something like that, maybe 11 to 1. That was a value bet I gave it to you. Like if I started charging for this podcast, which I have no plans to because I'm a good man, if I was to start charging for this podcast, you made value out of that bet already. Before we finish up, just want to give a big congratulations on how our listeners are split all around the place. We still got that Mongolian live flying the flag for us out there bunching Korea Portugal Brazil Australia UK Ireland and US UK Ireland Australia are still the main listener base, but scattered all over the place so I try not to keep it to local and parochial but since he is one of the big emergent stars of the sport big congratulations to our very own Cork's Eddie Dunbar he signed in another three year contract with team Ineos and who's the bet against Dumber. They're on some big things in the coming three years. He's had a great season with them looks like he's gelled nicely, legend of a man, so all the best to him. Tomorrow I won't be with you guys, it's a rest day. And that's taken us into the final stretch in this year's well-doubt finish and obviously Madrid on Sunday and the following week we're going to get back to our regular longer form podcast formats. For me, it's more stimulating. I like talking about the Vuelta, but it's just that diversity of topics and bit nicer when you get to the full length podcasts and I can interview guests and that sort of stuff. I'm looking around with the studio at the moment, so if anyone has any inspiration or anything like that on the studio, if you're in the podcast and land, you studio designs, let me know. I'm going all in on this podcast and you guys because I'm getting such great feedback. So looking forward to continuing the work on that and the idea of appreciate that continued support and the messages support and you know people who are writing kids writing bikes for the first time and so it's pretty epic. Okay, thanks for listening. That's been stage 16. I will be back to you on Wednesday, which stage 17. Until then get out, ride your bike and ride safe and have fun.
