Cold-weather dehydration is the invisible performance thief. In summer, the cue is obvious — you are hot, you are sweating, you reach for the bottle. In winter, none of those cues fire. You are cold, your bottles are cold, your hands are too numb to reach for them, and you really do not feel thirsty. But you are still losing fluid — through every exhaled breath (visible as condensation), through sweat trapped under your thermal layers, and through the cold-induced increase in urine production that your body generates to manage blood pressure in the cold.

Fill one bottle with a warm electrolyte drink — warm fluid is dramatically easier to drink in the cold than ice-cold water.   2. Use an insulated bottle with warm electrolyte drink

    Fill an insulated bottle with warm water (40-50C) mixed with an electrolyte tablet or drink mix. Warm fluid is psychologically easier to consume in cold weather and provides a small core temperature benefit. Standard bottles cool to near-freezing within 30-40 minutes in sub-5C conditions, making the fluid unappealing to drink.
