KREBS CYCLE (CITRIC ACID CYCLE)

Central metabolic pathway in mitochondria processing acetyl-CoA from carbs and fat into electron carriers that drive ATP production.

The biochemical crossroads where carbohydrate and fat converge. Endurance training increases Krebs cycle enzyme concentration — particularly citrate synthase, used as a biomarker for mitochondrial adaptation. Higher enzyme density = faster fuel processing = the molecular reason zone 2 works.
