VO2 KINETICS

Speed at which oxygen uptake rises at the start of exercise. Faster kinetics = quicker aerobic engagement = less anaerobic cost during transitions.

Trained cyclists reach steady-state VO2 in 60-90 seconds; untrained take 3-4 minutes. During ramp-up, the deficit is covered anaerobically. Warm-up 'priming' efforts speed VO2 kinetics for races. 30-30s interval training improves kinetics by challenging the on-transition.
