Welcome to tour of France stage 20 reaction show in 1948 Gino baray won five Mountain stages in one tour of France pogacha has joined that legendary Club it was his 16th career stage win and we can now officially Crown T pogacha the winner of the 2024 Tour of France today's episode is brought to you by what B all of the podcasts are sponsored by W bike at the moment they've been amazing long-term sponsors for us if you want to get your hands on a w bike you can head on over to W bike.com use the code roadman R oad M1 teen it's roadman 10 knock 10% off Sarah we have a lot to unpack I have 10 pages of notes from today it was so exciting wasn't it okay so let's start kind of with with with the question so we spoke yesterday and there's been a lot of chatter um about paga this narish that's kind of doing the RS about him being too greedy today was it a chance for him to answer those critics and maybe show a little bit of class that little touch of class and perhaps gift yonas the stage so do you think that he should have done this oh there's two parts to it isn't there it's like like straight answer no long answer oh this is going to be a long answer I think yanis is his biggest rival I don't think yonas would have gifted it to pugy if it was the other way around yonas is the Rival that's going to be there next year he's going to be there the year after when he's on the ground do you help him back up or do you stand on a tro there's also prize money implications there's even sports betting implications there I don't even know how you get into the ethics and morality of gifting stages around that but for some reason coming into the Finish it's the cycling historian in me for some reason coming into the Finish when I seen Pacha there didn't ride for the good chunk of the way up the climb I think he pulled one glass crank turn halfway up the climb I love that turn of phrase glass crank glass crank yeah it's a brilliant one you step on them too hard a break that's right I just expect it Pacha in the wake of all the criticism he's received in the wake of the history of the sport and we've seen these gifts down through the years he's already won the Tour of France he own has struggled back from injury the totality of all that maybe it got the better of me in the moment but I thought yeah he's going to gift this to him and yonas he he felt the same like Matt Stevens interviewed yonas after the question from Matt Stevens was do do you expect any Mercy yonas was in a exact same mindset as me there he said in some kind of way I was hoping he would give it to me so it shows this isn't something outlandish that never happens yonas had that almost weight of expectation because of the history of the sport as well and the circumstances but pogy I guess he's not much of a historian or he's just not much of a kind heart he said five stages is more than enough one would have been enough just the yellow Jersey would have been enough but it is how it is you don't break in cycling oh pagach is definitely not one of those people who support the idea of giving everybody on sports day a medal no he's not no he's an absolute winner and he's never ever going to let his kids 11 Place trophy he's never going to let his kids beat him until it's absolutely fair and square yeah I say he's absolutely SM es his girlfriend there table tennis and stuff but did you see Thomas against tweet I thought this is really cool as well and it really I agree I don't think Pachi should have gifted it to yonas I think that he's a killer he's a winner and also I wouldn't want a stage gifted to me if I was yonas now yonas obviously doesn't feel that way but you want to win at fair and square but Thomas de tweeted why do people say a climber is greedy if he wins for stages but not when a sprinter does what do you think about that like one word for that tradition yeah like we have a tradition of it like if you go back to Armstrong uh where we got a clip of Armstrong actually you know watch this clip this is an interesting one it's is to to set it up and have the context is the years two tell since Armstrong has wrapped up the tour we're racing up the iconic month on 2 where Tom Simpson died all the history that's there pantani a legend in the sport he done the zuro tour double which paga has now sealed in 1998 and this is this is
The clip where sticker up there and we'll have a look of this Monumental stage and Armstrong has blown away all of his rivals on this very difficult Summit and there is now just 100 met to go I don't if the Riders know that because there's no signage at all today because of the wind but in fact Lance Armstrong is about to make the final turn for the finish what an Ascent of momon 2 for both of these Riders and except pantani Armstrong is gaining time over everyone now is he going to take out his first stage win in this year's T of France we can see the line now I don't know whether they can because there's only a line on the road Panton is on the right and Armstrong keeping on the pressure here as we start to approach the line now pantani grits his teeth and accelerate line Armstrong clearly eases up over the finish line for pantani to take that win and like he confirmed that in the press conference afterwards and he said it was a g out of respect for Pan's climbing proess and a gesture of Goodwill and that incident really strained relationships between pantani now sadly passed away died in tragic circumstances in a hotel in Ry but that really strained relationships between the two and pantani publicly expressed his displeasure with this gesture and then the media piled in and really Amplified that controversy but it isn't the only time Armstrong didn't just decide to gift it to him and create this in in 2000 it's been happening forever like in 1970 Eddie mck absolutely dominating the Tour of France and he gifted to a Belgian compatriot but not a teammate Walter godr the win on stage three and Greg lamon who I've had on the podcast twice you know amazing interviews millions of people watched the interviews with Greg Lon he talked about how in 1996 on or 1986 on alz they are teammates but his teammate heo is literally his biggest competition in the r he know has attacked him even though he's in the yellow Jersey even though he knows his teammate he know has attacked him before Alto L's caught him on alz and he still gifted him the stage so there's a long tradition in gifts getting given out and I don't know I think pogacha he's Breaking All the Rules around tradition around how we do things in cycling I don't love it I don't love it at all I like that you know tip to history yeah a little nod back okay but we can now officially are can we say that pogy has won TR of France 2024 we can unofficially say it unofficially say it's a dangerous TT tomorrow we're going to get into it at the end pogy lives in the area I'm sure he knows the roads he's a huge gap now like what's his GC Gap uh after yesterday it is 5 minutes and 14 at the moment so it's not like pogy's going to get caught in the TT but it's not also like the procession stage we are used to just saying with one stage to go toour Francis over and declaring the winner cuz they go into champagne or into champagne mode doing selfies rolling into Paris for a bit of a Sprint it's not really that way tomorrow it's going to be pretty full gas for pugy to try and go for the stage again tomorrow so yeah not ideal yeah TT it just seems like the most stomach wrenching way I mean full all out effort for some of them some yeah okay yeah for for these guys at the pointy end okay so last night really a a little bit of drama last night between a couple of riders after stage 19 yesterday and we're going to play a clip in a couple of minutes I think where has that lined up for me but just to give a little bit of context to this so we've two Riders we've got the little track Rider Chone and the barin Victorious Rider that is Santiago Pago so they're both like absolutely slugging it out for 10th position and there's not really that much between them and yesterday coming up the last climb they were all struggling and they're obviously you know every millisecond every second counts so have a little look at this video what transpired when they got over the the Finish Line after stage 19 okay so in that clip it's quite heated from Chone now it's not in English unfortunately if you're listening to this on the podcast not looking at it on YouTube I'll just run through it really quickly with you basically Chone rolls up uh Beto is toiling himself down and looks absolutely dead on his feet and Chone basically shouts at him that he is a cheat that he got a sticky bottle for too long that it's not fair that he should be fine that and he basically says over and over it's not correct what do you think Anthony it's cheating it's straight out black and
White cheating and I think maybe some people coming to the tour to France for first time I know we' have a lot of listeners tuning in this is maybe the only bike race to watch in the year and they're not 100% sure of you know Vander Paul on the stage where caraz took the jerse that we were over at Vander Paul gets a puncture with like 4K to go and he's coming back on the back of a team car is that's cheating he's drafting in behind a car but we have a different set of rules that govern cycle cycling and they again we talked about the tradition already this is tradition these aren't written down anywhere but anyone who's a cycling person they know the difference in these Unwritten rules like to run through them if you stop for a natural break you need to relieve yourself and you're coming back to the race it's okay to draft off a vehicle coming back typically the camera won't follow you so there's no public eye on you and you can draft back same if you're coming back from a mechanical you can come back and you can draft off a vehicle or you can even get you know the magic spanner out the window or they pretend like they're adjusting your gears and pull you along for a small space of time the sticky bottle and the magic spanner yeah exactly like sticky bottle is an example of if you're in a group you can go back to feed from the car so it's obviously you're losing energy if you were to naturally come back up to the group yourself so sticky bottle is a recognition that we rers to eat and drink so you can take a sticky bottles where you'll hold on to the bottle your team car will hold on to the bottle they'll accelerate and it'll put you back to the position you were in all these rules are designed to put you back to the position that you were in before whatever happens whether it was a mechanical whether it was a natural break or what's a ball putting you back to where you are that's very different to taking a positive advantage and that's what Pago done bargo's going up a climb he's struggling and he takes a ball to bring a further up the road so not to maintain his current position not to bring him back to where he was to gain an advantage and that's just black and white it's cheating it's wrong it should be outlawed he should have time penalties for it so I was absolutely delighted to see him getting dropped today yeah I don't think I think I think you're so right because it was particularly look it's cheating no matter what way you put it it but if if he is you know not contesting top 10 in GC if he's way down the the mountain whatever yeah it's still cheating but like it was so close I can totally understand understand why Chone was completely lied so yeah it even with the sprinters cuz people will sometimes turn more of a blind eye cuz you're right it hasn't got the time implications but there's an energy implication you're meant to cover the kilometers at sort of France under your own so if you think if we were going into Paris for the historic Sprints that we normally have and it's Cavendish versus philipson but Cavendish has got a sticky bottle halfway up to climb today he's had to he got the conserve energy that philipson didn't get to conserve now he's that little bit fresher than philipson going into tomorrow so it's not fair at either end the race but it happens a little bit more at the back of the race well Karma B Santiago on the board today as he said he got spot out so we'll have a look at the GC also got dropped so that tomorrow let's jump in and have a look or today's stage sorry let's jump in and have a look at today's stage which had over 4,000 meters of climbing we had the cats who called the bruss where it all just kicked off and it was like a bomb went off at the very start of the stage there was Riders absolutely everywhere I actually don't think the commentators knew what was going on in Euros sport cuz they were struggling to figure out at one point there's like four up the road pogachas in a group of four behind it had literally exploded good ruers like Rodriguez six on GC has dropped and it's like what we're 20K into the stage it was insane then we moved on to maybe the most scenic climb in the Tour of France so far like well not over cuz the race is basically over 60 km in we had the call the torini first category climb 20 20K long 5.7% gradient and a really narly looking descent off it's spectacular views but real James Bond stuff wasn't it yeah it was absolutely gorgeous like all of the stages
Have been really beautiful I the apps are absolutely stunning but today really stood out for me as in the you know the the how stunning every single climb was and every single Vista yeah it looks beautiful down that part of the world then to finish out the climbing for today we had the call the call Main at a cat one as well that was 7.5k long at 7.1% and then we finished off at the call de la and you know that was a sticky one again a 15.7 km long at 7.1% really added up to a spicy day of climbing and that second category climb basically out of the gate B was Keen like B he did anime sections of the race but you got but was in the wing mirror of the lead car as the flag was dropping he was going chomping at the B yes right straight away I remember chatting to hppy on the podcast and you know say what you will about that Armstrong era but some of these stories still have relevance and he talked about stages like this that he'd wake up in the middle of the night still having nightmares about them where you're starting up a hill you've sore legs in the third week and you're trying to control the race you're trying to figure out who's gone in that group of eight [ __ ] is there someone from GC gone in that group of eight oh there is let's close it let's close it and that's what it was mental fatigue as well of just trying to make sure okay X is up the road why isn't down the road you know it's yeah I can't even imagine it must be so so stressful but when you have legs like pogy it turns from a stressful day to just fun because he's just surfing between groups the sprinters I did feel bad for because some of them like Arnold dear he missed yesterday's time cut other sprinters they didn't struggle much for the time cut today but they definitely had to work for it because they were dropped so so early like we've seen Arnold the Lee literally dropped as soon as the climb started they were forming that group hetto and it's mentally a lot harder for sprinters this year because I can see why dear dropped out yesterday he was dropped early it was obviously he wasn't going to make the time Court be valiantly pushed on but the sprinters don't have that carrot of push through and you'll get to Paris which they normally have it's like push through and you get a TT in East to Monaco it's like yeah it's not the same for them at all so fair play to them for you know that mental fortitude of keeping on pushing through so before we dive into the rest of the podcast there I want to talk briefly about our show sponsor this stuff here is called pillar and it's been a massive Game Changer in my performance and any of the athletes I'm coaching specifically when it comes to sleep most of us are familiar at this point with electrolytes but pillar takes a different kind of root to achieving performance it focuses on micronutrition ensuring you're ready to perform even before you hit the start line and it does this through optimizing your sleep why I love this stuff is there's no marketing with it you take take it and then observe for me I'm have a whoop most of us have a whoop or something like that to measure our sleep take it then observe the levels of deep sleep you get observe the levels of increased HRV you get it just absolutely works that's why I'm so happy that we have them as a partner we're going to give you a discount on that if you're based in the US you can pick up your Co your copy your packet of pillar just one scoop in your little beverage before you go to sleep and you can get that over on the feed pillar and use code roadman and that's going to get you 15% off okay let's get into how the whole thing unfolded let's get into it actually before I get into that I forgot to give you the code for if you're actually just anywhere else on pillar it's still the same code it's still Road man you just use on the pillar website and that's for European shipping there you go professionally good catch good catch okay now let's get into how it unfolded as we said like a went off on the first climb and eventually we seen Amoy going clear we seen Mass going clear we seen Kerman going clear probably the funniest moment to the stage was over the top of the first climb it's quite chaotic but it's just getting some semblance of organization Pacha who caras was probably a little bit anxious about going how greedy is this last like you're saying he doesn't like the 11 Place trophies it's like well does he want the K Jersey as well
As the yellow Jersey because it was Within reach if he took the points today but POG rolls up to caraz coming to the top of the climb he touches him on the hip conversations exchang and he basically tells Carz the points are yours you don't have to worry about them so kopaz UAE team moved to the side caraz rolls to the front he doesn't Sprint he's just nonchalantly rolling across the K Point Jorgenson launches from behind launches his Sprint I have no idea why and he takes the points and this for me irritated UAE it irritated pogacha because they let him take the points and it really irritated carapaz he kind of looked like he might bring pogacha into the Corb like I thought he was going to completely lose his [ __ ] he held it together but it was a very strange move from Jorgenson after the stage we kind of got to see what that was about his quote was yesterday I felt like I gave them for free I don't know why I did that he wasn't really contributing so I said today I'd at least make him Sprint for it but I guess he wasn't expecting it because yesterday he had a free ride it was just a bit of fun I quite like that when oh I don't know when I saw this I was like oh talk about pogy not making any friends in the palet and I was like talk about not respecting tradition I was like M Jorgenson for all of my praise for him yesterday I was like I think he's gone down a lot in some people's estimation after doing that it was just so Random especially because he's nowhere near he's not contending this jersey at all he was just been a bit of a a little bit of a like after seen his quote I thought actually was quite funny no I I I don't agree with it and I just thought that was so weird and as I said I just don't no gifts that was the team of today no gifts but yeah anyway I just thought that it was it was a funny moment I think everyone was scratching their heads after and you could see Carz he was as red as those dots on his jersey and his shorts do you think that uh patu's decision not to give you know gift this stage flowed from this kind of animosity that's floating around yeah digs like this is there an animosity between Vima and UAE or Vima and pogy it's hard to tell like they do seem quite cordial to each other there's handshakes pogy even offered them up a bottle on the last climb but Sean Kelly then interpreted that entirely different to how I would have interpreted Sean Kelly interpreted as almost baiting them saying look I'm fully hydrated and I have more water to spare you look tsty pal you want to have a drink no one's mind works like Sean C's mind because he's been that that's baiting Lads on the final climb as well you don't times Sean was friends with anybody else in the palel and same with lad Armstrong no sure Kelly was telling a story about how he attacked when Steven roach his compatriot had a puncture in par KN to win par overall so it's rootless at friends like that who needs enemies I think Po pagach and yonas I don't think they're buddies they don't think they hang hang out or go training together or anything like that they look like different people don't they they and I think they are they're very they they seem like very different people you know their personalities are are they seem quite opposite but there's a respect we also talked about this earlier it's funny how the media have really warmed Pacha and have almost villainized yess like if you think about Pacha the life style he lives it's not really something a lot of us can identify with he wears a 250 to 350 Grand Richard melee watch he lives in Monaco he goes ring with Formula One Stars he's box office he's rock and roll yonas has had as good a grand tour success up to this year he won the last two tour to Francis so a comparable type Rider but he's seems quite a humble family man he's had quite a linear progression over the last few years in terms of getting just slightly better year after year where we seen Pacha quite average for a while and then boom crazy progression like one of my friends put up from Junior TT uh KH mcdy and Irish lad put up the results of the junior TT whatever year Pacha was Junior Maybe 2018 2019 around that vintage and I think he was like 15th in the European TT Champs it wasn't like he was this mythical figure like he had a lot of success coming up but he wasn't a mythical Remco type Talent so for some people especially some of our Danish friends that Jonas's progression has been a lot more
Relatable and his sacrifices are a lot more transparent and I don't know it's just it's a weird narrative that we are this and your probably the biggest pogy Fanboy out there I'm the biggest pogy fan ever but I think it's because we have we're getting a particular narrative from the outlets and you know what we view on Twitter I'm sure in Denmark and all of the kind of Nordic countries that yonas is probably the number one and pagat is just a bloody EG who keeps making Instagram stories and why is he doing that focus on the cycling so I don't know I'm I'm sure there's there's a lot there is a lot of support as well for Yas but uh yeah I'm a pogy pogy fan until I die so the race is going of panning out we had that group up front and then a Chase group got across with pogy's teammate cair and we' seen that coming across on the radio that cir let him go in the break caraz got out in that group as well as did trap Nick to join kelderman to make it two up front and B on his final tour to France and then even closer to the call the top of the call the Trini we had another group tree getting across including stven Johansson who crashed two days ago and both them are riding so well in the tour this year especially Sten like a big guy going up C climbs like that what weight is he's a big looks bigger than the climbing yeah this is the horrible thing for me cuz Sten is like three kilograms lighter than me same height he's 77 kg as 6'2 and he looks like a monster he does like he looks like the Incredible Hulk he physically looks twice as big as the guys that he was riding with today fa play time for hanging in for so long but we seen in the the P before the started stage the T of France like the guys you think are big like vanderpol and he comes past you and it's like he's yeah he's so so lean before you move on from this part um just you mentioned the radio a second ago and I I meant to put in at the top of the show basically that we haven't been seeing a lot of the uh radio broadcasts from the team radio radios we haven't been seen as many as we had at the start of the Church of France uh VI M Lisa bike pulled out of it as did inos yesterday and for H because they felt that they were getting Overexposed and that their team tactics were being broadcasted to the world just broadcasting yeah we've lost in or four men out the back basically in your s with the time Co really fsma have come out and said that unless the approach changes for next year 2025 they won't be participating in it whatsoever so there you go but they're so delayed like I don't understand that it's it's ridiculous yeah I think I think vism Spike just kind of fit I think they kind of like to give out I think they are glass half full kind of a glass half empty kind of a team they focus a lot on the negatives that are happening happening around them okay so we're at so we're on the call the Teran caras didn't have any similar problems with any of the other visma ruers over to C called to sereni kelderman trap Nick stens they were all happy for was nowhere nearby no he was back back in the bunch thankfully for caras he easy 10 points and it looks at this point like we were going to get a winner especially with the climbing Talent we had up front like IR mass and kopas two really good climbers I thought the Winner's going to come out with this break but then something I wasn't really expecting quickstep started setting a Tempo on the last kilometers of the called Terin and that was obviously a move to put pressure on yonas and Remco to jump up to second on GC they out for blood and they were they were smelling blood in the water I mean yonas yesterday was quite open and his interviews about he really let people know in the interviews that he he was cooked and he was he was kind of done you know so or was he well that's it I mean there is this game was that the ultimate head game where he's like I'll make some fool out of Remco now I'll tell him I'm cooked on the best day of my life and they'll commit so they committed like they committed reer after ryer like we started off with mosc on in the valley then Van Wilder started It ultimately Landa ended up setting this crazy temp which we'll get into in a second but yonas yesterday when he talked after the stage about how he wasn't feeling great like yeah maybe just the head games element to it
Like there's a Double Bluff in it but without those comments I definitely don't think that Remco does what he does today I don't think he puts the team on the front and as a consequence of Remco putting the team on the front the gap which was four minutes and the winner should have come from the break now it brings GC back into play right okay and that is the question that everyone was asking as well from the start of the day do you think that Pacha really always intended to go for the stage I don't think so I think he slay in the break I think well also it's his home road so having said that I know he went deep yesterday even the way he rode that final climb in yonas as whe you can tell he went deep yesterday he talked about how when he went past Jenson yesterday he kept looking back cuz he thought maybe orens was coming back atam was going to win the Sprint I think he is human he went super deep yesterday I think he had a lot of fatigue today but unless quickstep try to close that pogy doesn't go for St yeah I think he just doesn't he just cruises and has a an easy day uh yeah I think that's just the fact of it but carop has held on long enough again to get full points on the call Main climb the break had three minutes at the bottom of the last climb Yan her started doing the damage initially and bringing that three minutes gradually down I think janard actually dropped rodrigue is on whyos got rid of their team radios again and cir was dropped up front for UAE and that was kind of an indication then those two kind of a Synergy of cair's dropped so he's not going to win the stage quick steper riding behind and narrowing in the Gap it was almost teasing pogy yeah I agree it was it was yeah as you said he had to kind of go at that point didn't he did you see uh on the Pino dbo Pino Cor what's going on with that oh my God that was CRA they were to in the Franc van there was hundreds of people had swarmed the van and were rocking it like over and back I thought they were going to try and topple it so for anyone who doesn't know what we're talking about t Pino retired last year and the his fans are hardcore we call them the penino Ultras I guess the fans aren't retiring for Pino they want to see him back peanut won a cross country race at 10K earlier in the year and it was a super time as well he's off so anyone who's followed his story he's retired from cycling now he's living his best life in a farm in the middle of nowhere he has about 10 goat mil dog yeah I'd love that that'll be my life that's the dream so Landa kicked it off Landa starts riding and we love to see land yeah we're fan big fans that's when the real damage was done we seen the Mad cheese and our least favorite Rider Pago drops we were all delighted to see that we cracked the glass of champagne but he also done damage at the back of the GC Derek G went Adam Yates went Chone went yinson held on for quite a while because he's motivated to move up that GC he went deep but as soon as land pulls off then there's an interesting dynamic because it momentarily hesitated and I was like well this actually could swell again because land pulls off Remco goes Remco comes back it's not really happening then Al Madea starts riding and it was actually a brilliant move because Landa has pulled off after his turn so he's quite cooked there's only one space between Landa and ala on GC Almeida is a better time trist but I guess he wanted to give himself a little bit more buffer going into the TT so Almeida starts riding the tempo the distance Landa and the effect of that is to also bring the break back to a very manageable distance and then probably the moment of the race Remco goes again it looks like he doesn't believe in the attack yonas is comfortable able to follow pacha's comfortably able to follow as soon as the sting goes out of the Remco attack boom yonas comes over the top see it in the douches yeah it was crazy wasn't and it's it was just it was like okay watch me go it was a re it was a brilliant moment to see yonas attacking it was Phoenix from the Flames it really was but we all bought the bluff yeah yeah we did we did probably the bigger story than yonas attacking and dropping Remco was what were kopas and mass doing I was shocked at this as well because they were teammates for many years so they had I don't know I I can't remember I
Guess they had three minutes at the bottom of the CL Bas they had three minutes yeah I think they're four minutes before Yan her started yeah yeah roughly three minutes I think at the Bas of the climb but then they just started [ __ ] around and looking on each other no one would ride um it was they were then they were attacking each other then they were kind of arguing about who was going to to to ride it was it was very strange their ex- teammates at movie star but there is history to that as well okay because caraz verbally agreed and shook the hand of the movie star director to say he would resign a contract and then he broke that promise and went to inos that's right so I would say there's historic tension there and the two of them were at each other's trout I would love to have seen Mass win that stage I would have really because he actually got the most uh combative Rider M's been on a podium in gr tours before like he's a legit GC Rider but he just doesn't seem to be able to recapture form definitely at this year's tour uh yeah Remco had to try out today like I don't blame Remco and it's not a slice on Remco for yonas drop Remco had to try it animated the stage it gave us something all to all to watch he's a big gap back to fourth place as well so that there was nothing to lose I also really felt it was a mature display from Remco these past three weeks he's been kind of noted for being I don't know where the narratives come from maybe couple of times shouting at people and stuff but we do have this perception that remco's this petulent child it's incapable of controlling his emotions and Ryan's you know tactically well as stute over a 3- we period I think he put those debates to bed it was a really mature performance from Remco I think the the bad rep comes from the last couple of years because he came into the palan and he's a young book but yet as you said he's shouting at people and he's really really outspoken for such a young guy and you know if the if there's a lot if there's a dangerous finish if the road Furniture is too dangerous if there's not enough water if it's too hot he is one guy in the peton he'll really lead the charge for being very very outspoken his talent is unprecedent amazing yeah exactly but he's actually getting a lot of criticism online for kind of you know sucking up to Pacha and being you know oh friend kind of with Pacha and they're constantly trying to be in his face and hang out with him be funny and be seen with him I have seen a lot of that online but I think that's where we just it's just a case of the you know the sidal fans don't want uh any you know any of their team hanging out with UAE or you know they don't want them to be mates they're also like I think why it looks like they're super p is because they warm down beside each other but they warm down beside each other because they're in the jerseys they're in the jerseys so the cameras keep focusing on the two of them warming down like their best buddies are F each other at the end I would say there's also a healthy amount of competition between those two I think REM definitely a winner pogy is absolutely ruthless so yeah the question you think pogy would have gifted that to Remco if Remco had have been in the exact same situation as that's such a good question I think he would have I don't know I think he would have I don't think pogy would have gifted that to his own mot but Bravo Remco cuz I thought he's been brilliant for the entire Tour of France he's been a joy to watch He's W over a lot of people as well yeah and his his blog is brilliant or his Vlog is brilliant on YouTube as well you get really to see that he's a he's a likable kid as well who I do feel sorry for is the guys that don't get to cruise into Paris tomorrow now and have the the champagne and now I know from like where we let's look at GC I know you want to get back and do a little bit of reaction but I just want to have a briefly look at GC so like who's going to be riding that TT hard tomorrow it's pogach is going to be riding it hard obviously vinard Remco I would say down to down to Simon Yates Phoenix Phoenix G yeah g maran's not going to like honestly probably the top 20 are going to be riding that pretty hard caraza 15th I think the cut off's kind of around there yeah but just so everyone else in the
Bunch is on a pretty chill day tomorrow but it still doesn't have the fields of Cruising Into Paris and maybe it's a little bit of a disappointing end yeah I know but we have the Olympics look forward to after that so it's a little bit of a sacrifice that we had to make this year so I'm happy enough with it so we had the defending Olympic champion at least for another couple of weeks caras he secured the king of mountain Jersey I love to see him just racing and getting into breaks more often like as an Irish fan that's where Nicholas roach made such a huge mistake he had the potential to be such an amazing grandor Breakaway specialist like we're seeing with Ben Healey and he niched down and focused on GC we've seen caraz kind of do that as well I just don't think with the current Cropper Riders it's going to happen for carapaz to win another grand tour I think it's too strong like you're not going to get Pacha vinard EVN Paul rogich one of them not going to the gr any of the grand Tours he was brilliant carapaz and this is coming from someone who doesn't like carapaz like he was brilliant and he was entertaining for the entire thing so CH out to him King of the mountains Jersey probably the most combative rider in the entire tour of front it was great to see beum gmet has also won the green jersey that's done and dusted the yellow and white Jersey obviously not officially done but both Remco and R both Remco and uh pogy have won those jerseys respectively but we have 10 teams coming away with nothing yeah it's crazy isn't it goose eggs Wooden Spoons yeah that's tough to take it is tough for the amount of training and you know the the budgets that go into these teams um you know but then I know not all teams will have you know will they think they're going to get the podium will they think they'll get a stage win will yeah that would be the hope for quite a lot of them yeah if they get like a will some of the smaller teams be like okay if we get a somebody in the top 10 if we got somebody some of smaller teams pulled out good roids EF are quite a small budget team brilliant Uno X Uno X great France who else B&B ARA won a stage Direct Energy with Anthony tures won the gravel stage like B winning the four stage in a onew with uh his teammates uh what's his teammates name vandenbrook like that was an absolutely brilliant brilliant tour to France for the French as well like absolutely phenomenal and B B out today again in the break you know he didn't have the legs to follow mass and kopas when it matter but a brilliant Tour of France for him and an amazing career for him so I know he's sticking around I think into the doofan next year but it's going to be his final ever tour to France so you know hats off to him yeah and the fans the French fans are just are all of the fans along the Route obviously we've had like a couple of missteps where you know those core yeah Dorito man but like the the support as per every year has just been amazing you see a motorb kicking your man off today that fell running beside the bunch and motor just kind of clo lined them and just got out of there there's some like crazy outfits at the the tur of Frans people dressing up I I always just think what gets into people's head they're like I'm going to go I'm going to go out to the Alps it's 38 Dees and I'm going to dress up as a pretzel and run cheese alcohol alcohol get drugs okay let's get a little bit of reaction so after the stage I've got a quote here from pagach I was really surprised with how the race exploded on the call De brow one of my favorite climbs to train on in this area but our guys did a super good job we came all together to s spell that's the town at the bottom of that climb and then cair went in the Breakaway that was good for us and then we tried to take it easy as much as possible to bring as many guys as possible to the final but sidal quickstep decided to try and take some time on yonas I guess or to win the stage and that really played into my hands now I've searched I've trolled the internet for quote from yonas and haven't really been able to find it we were watching it and it was a lovely interview to see because he spoke about how proud he was of himself of coming back from those serious injuries that he broke basically all the bones on the right side body plus two collapse lungs I didn't realize the severity of the injuries yeah
Yeah it was insane and then within a month he's back on the indoor trainer training again so maybe tomorrow I'll have poy was w a bit a broken hand last year prob two days training and so maybe tomorrow I'll have more in com in-depth comment from yonas okay so stage results it was puggy 4 hours and four minutes yonas 7 seconds he lost 7 seconds in 10 m it was the shortest Sprint I've ever seen how' you lose 7 Seconds there caraz at 23 seconds third place with Remco IR Mass ala Jorgenson Landa ad Yates and B on a top 10 which actually a solid Ro out B considering he got caught uh GC as we went through it's Pacha 82 hours 53 minutes 5 minute lead heading into the final stage on yonas 5 minute 14 lead Remco is 8 minutes and four back Almeida is in fourth is in fifth y six Rodriguez is down to seventh Jorgenson is up one place to eight Derek G is down one place to ninth and Chone is holding ground intent it's like reading out the top of the pops there and we we and uh Santiago Beto is in 11 he is 20 seconds behind Chone so that's an interesting one to watch tomorrow for the T that is that's the real battle tomorrow let's see what other bottles we have tomorrow so pogy yeah it's not a bottle there obviously yonas is no bottle Remco solid Al May is a better tester than Landa so we wouldn't expect that in there oh there's only a second between Adam Yates and Carlos Rodriguez yeah that's a battle for six who would be a better time TR time tral there I honestly don't know none of them are really famed for it uh yeah I'd say that one's going to come down to motivation and freshness like Rodriguez has got weaker and weaker as the days have gone onon and and uh Derek G that could be one to watch as well oron's quite a good tester i' expect him to consol out there but he's not going to move up a spot cuz he's three minutes is there anyone in 13 14 or 15 that you could that you think that would none great okay no complete Outsiders that are going to get into into the top 10 no that's interesting so h g bam G he has the points J as he wrapped up Phillips him a second and that concard was TD into it and the mountains carapaz has that wrapped at 127 points pogy second yonis Tor good ride actually out of joranson to come fort in that so tomorrow stage as we said it's a TT it's box office starting in Monaco finishing in nice 35 km it's lumpy enough TT where we have an AK climb in the middle of it at 5.6% and then we have another 1.6 kilm climb which some pitches in at over 10% most of them I think it averages out at around 8% technical quite sketchy run into to nce so you know everyone hopefully stay safe and stays uppr C wait that's a wrap so we're going to be back again tomorrow for our final day to tour to France and I think this little test is maybe sport us on to do the Olympics next weekend y so we'll do Olympic TT next Saturday Ro man thank you for tuning in loved reading your comments yesterday please let me know in the comments down below if you think pogacha is right to not gift the stage to vinard up here there's another video which you should definitely check out and please do subscribe to the channel so you don't miss
