Biggest rival in sport I'd love to know but so the Tour of France Works off the lowest cumulative time over a three- we period okay so we know that so it's whoever covers the set number stages in the lowest cumulative time is Crown Champion that's T Paca last year but if you zoom out and you look at the last four tour to Francis and we look at the cumulative time for the last four tour to Francis combined there's such a narrow margin there's only 1 minute and 25 between yonas and paga on GC over the four T to Francis that's 84 stages I can't believe that stat and no two writers have ever finished first and second in whatever order more in t of France history than these two guys so yeah for me they're so both so young as well yeah I hope we get many many years of these kind of competitions against each other yeah so yeah that was pretty pretty crazy no so before we jump into the stage uh just a couple of words about these amazing time TR bikes that were're seeing that we saw today Anthony every time I look over at Anthony he's on his laptop looking wanting to buy a Time bike not that well I would that yeah you came very close to buying one a couple of weeks ago but somebody I need to tryforce it's chicken and egg go fast on its own the problem with it but yeah every time I look at you you're looking at time trail bikes so I did a little bit of research there's an amazing article in V that uh publication online publication please go and check it out it has all of the details the guys did an amazing uh piece there on uh pacha's UAE called Nago bike this is the Italian Brand's first time time TR bike with disc break so they're gone they're kind of kind gone up to the 21st century here so if you take the bike itself that's going to set you back almost €7,000 that's just for the frame then you have to add Wheels they uh they put Envy on an arrow coat and those wheels are going to set you back almost $4,000 the saddle alone is an unreleased saddle and I think that's probably um you know very it's made particularly for paga and that's going to cost you ,000 the Shimano drivetrain and it has a couple of add-ons in there that's almost $110,000 just for the drivetrain then you've got your custom Arrow bars three and a half Grand to total up to an eyew washing face melting total of $215,000 for the bike that he was riding and he has a couple of them because we saw last year Pat's time TR bikes don't worry he's not paying 21 but what what he wrote last year I think he had three or four of them and three of them went up for auction he kept one something something like that happened they went for insane money as well but that's are you going to be spending that much on it cuz if you do you got to lie to me about it I don't even want to know okay let's get into today's stage so today's stage we started in Monaco and we finished in nice pretty show is starting in Monaco and finishing in nice two climbs today rby was the harder of two climbs 8.1 km of 5.6% and the more more famous of the two was called the a went up the Steep side 1.6k at 8.1% some of the splits when we seen the GC guys coming through was just meltwater and how much they' taken out of good riders that were you know top 10 on GC like Derek G now the time Trot isn't really a normal time trial but we're used to seeing flatter time trials we're definitely not used to seeing in the last age of tour to France but this is testing Rider's ability to climb but it's also testing their ability to go downhill and manage fatigue over retrie we period so it was slightly unique set of characteristics it was testing really enjoyed it for a Time TR stage normally it's you know something that's a little bit boring and I honestly wasn't super looking forward to it but when we got into it I was like actually this is there's a lot of talking points so I want to unpack all those but before I jump into it one really quick piece of business I everyone knows about carbohydrates on the bike these days whether you're training or whether you're racing you need to be pushing 80 to 120 gram of car carbohydrates honestly I found it really difficult to eat on the bike and not have gastro problems I was constantly coming home cramps in my stomach that was until I found Vel Forte Vel Forte are amazing they're

Of course can play different in open traffic because they'll close off sections of Road some will be one way streets that you just can't do unless you go in the middle of the night and wrecky this so it can look very different on race day than Recon day but yeah preparation especially on The Descent like that was you know it's pretty you know hairy knuckle stuff and I think maybe that's what like made it so interesting because we had some real battles today like we had Yates jumping over uh Yates jumping over Rodriguez you know we talk it seems like we talk every day about any El's Tour of France being a disaster I guess it's not a disaster it's a disaster by their standards and the budgets and the budget yeah yeah I think if people are kind of thinking that we're being too hard on any us it is just because they've got so much money at their disposal you know to make to really give the best of riders and also entice good Riders over to their team yeah Beto who we talked yesterday about Beto and Cher all hissing at him anyone who missed the episode yesterday missed the drama basically Pago was accused of um of cheating by his nearest rival you know Chone said that patago took a very long sticky bottle up a climb and there was only really seconds between them I think SE 20 seconds between them in the GC to get into the top 10 which is really really highly sought after so nudged Mill yeah so that was tough to watch that was tough to watch if you're I say Chone went so deep yeah to keep Pago out top I would say so and Shone is really he's an Italian he's a super passionate person he's Rider that kind of I've seen racing before and he's always just so flamboyant and always a little bit kind of he gives out so much about everything as I said he's not a rider that I would have loved but I was really really rooting for him today I I really was I we found out J on commentary today as well that land has an official fan club which we might join the land Mo fan club they could be like they could be taken over from the TBO you know Ultras maybe they be clashing like football Hooligans in the street breaking up English pubs like ve L I think land is a lover I don't think he would condone any his of his fans doing anything like that whether he's a lover or a fighter he wouldn't be noted for his time tral ability so today I think it's fair to say he pulled out the greatest time trial performance of his entire life he finished seventh on the stage to hold on to fifth on GC he's been an absolutely super signing for Patrick lafaver and quickstep this year I've been really impressed with him all year he looks like he's in we've all known he has those type of legs for years years he's one of the top riders in the world but he seems more committed this year he seems lighter but I was super impressed by his willingness to just lay himself on the line for Remco when Remco wanted that to try and jump be H us into second other day yeah I'm pretty sure I heard when the commentators saying that Atlanta maybe sometimes struggles in that team leader GC Contender role that he is a bit more relaxed as a lieutenant you know as a kind of yeah the is if he set out to Roy GC he probably wouldn't have got f so that was a weird one I mean Patrick lafaver is probably going to you know do you think he's going to need to get some more riders in the transfer window because rco is very much an up and coming stir and he needs a little bit of a stronger deeper team behind him does he have any money oh this I don't know I don't know like they're noted for they being very tight Al leap would free up a lot of budget on the payroll and I'm assuming he's going to unload him pretty soon they're a weird setup if you look a quick step not entir but they are largely local sponsors who I would say are very P favor that's why he's pretty immune to mainstream media criticism whether he's outspoken about female racing or pay parity or criticizing writers he just doesn't care because they don't have the same power of pulling sponsors like other companies might over him he runs a you know almost a Putin style dictatorship in there yeah you're right it is just a bunch of friends on the board that support him and support the team financially a lot of kind of small names like quickstep is a flooring company you know
So it's like yeah and then there's a bashing company so yeah it's kind of all his mates that he grew up with I think pump a lot of money into this team which I don't think maybe it's a good thing that that's the way that team has been forever since running over there yeah H like look it's a strong enough Squad like they've Yan hert they've mos gone you know troubl ruer he's had his kind of you know Italian he's been once or twice accused of racial slows and stuff against other roers being G getting the green jersey would have H moscon I'd say but Yan her's been strong moscon is a great rider in the classics like he super riding Ru a few years ago he seems to have settled in quickstep Van Wilder was looked decent in the mountains but decent is maybe as much as I could level land has been a brilliant signing for them yeah I think they're a little short if remco's going to challenge Tad and yonas they're short like if he's going to win a jro or a welta and turn up with the races where the big two aren't there yeah I think he can do it with that Squad but even if you think UAE have a lot of good Riders they left at home climbing Talent like Jay Vine is sitting at home still injured you know a guy who's won welta stages so yeah I think they need to be active in the transfer market if they can hold on to Remco yeah like anyos we keep saying it like they're crying out for a GC roer they're not going to develop a pockock or a Josh tling into win the Tour to France they need to buy a GC Rider and Remco rogich looked like the only two as much as we kind of give out about Patrick leaver he the Riders seem to apart from Al fle they don't seem to get on at all Le favor is very critical of him but I think that Remco feels like quite loyal to his team because they stuck with him through his like injuries that he had remember a couple years ago when he crashed and fell down that Chasm and injured himself so yeah it will be very very interesting to see if he moves I would actually like to see him move I think it would be good for I I like him there and also I think you can only read so much into the mainstream cycl media you can learn a lot from listening to the people who are close to lefer when I had Dan Martin on the podcast he said his favorite person in cing is Patrick lefer he said a humble guy amazing EQ that anytime he had ups or Downs in his career leaver was one of the first people to ring him and you know I haven't heard that of many people yeah I mean he does get a very bad rap but then when you hear it from kind of almost like the horse's might it's good to hear so ramco today was in the white jersey this kind of confused me a little bit because he is the time Tri World Champ so I assumed that he would have been in the rainbow bands I was kind of looking forward to seeing that yeah they just have a hierarchy so they have a hierarchy of Jersey so white jersey takes precedence over tour France jerseys take precedence over national champs jerseys over World Champs jerseys so yeah have Vander Paul took yellow he wouldn't wear the world Road Race Champs Jersey on a road stage he'd wear the yellow Jersey or white if he was eligible okay fair enough yeah it's just something I kind of noticed he did look pretty cool he did he had the rainbow all over his helmet all over his rear wheel like he he looked absolutely amazing his position on the bike his head is literally a foot lower than his Earth isn't it it's crazy I was looking at his custom Arrow bars as well if you want to get a set of his custom Arrow bars think they're € 3,400 EUR to get set just the arrow bars not the bike but it's a three- week process where you actually need to go to the Netherlands where this guy makes a mold of your arm to build bars for you it's getting really high end up there rco is very just for move on I know that rco is very very detailed orientated and he spends so much time in the Wind Tunnel like so much more apparently than anyone else he just loves it in there hours and hours and hours on end so yeah no wonder he looks so good so we also noticed that uh POG wasn't wearing his overshoes did you notice that as well today yeah at the
Start of the yeah definitely maybe I was going to read something into it at the start but then he went and absolutely smoked every once so I thought I haven't seen data on this he wore his DMT shoes which I'm not sure if he has a Shar in that but like DMT puggies and AOS socks which I've rarely seen shoe sock combos outside of Arrow Shoes like the bond zero plus plus an arrow sock can be faster than having shoe covers over it but for non Arrow Shoes like pogy was wearing an arrow sucks I've never seen that the show that been faster than having actually shoe cover on it and all the their top GC RS went with the shoe cover so I thought when I seen him maybe this is just a marketing stunt for DMT and he's not really up for it today but no at last he absolutely torched everyone that's why I wear those Bond shoes fastest shoes in the world those Arrow Gaines they're actually hand me down from you so they were too small for you every little helps okay so how motivated would the bigger writers have been though for a stage like today because they're Miss in that lovely Easy Ride it's such a gorgeous tradition where they're all just rolling in together taking selfies and drinking champagne yeah I was worried about PG's motivation I thought he might write in I didn't see a scenario where POG was going to take the risky took on the sense I didn't see a scenario where yonas was going to take the risky took on the descents coming back from the Bas country Remco I kind of saw a scenario where he was going to go crazy because Remco he just seems a little prouder than the other two it's that was misplaced you know assignment of Pride to him and not the other two but I thought Remco had something maybe to prove after yis dropping him the other day and wanted to put in a display all Tre them one stages and he to World Champ all Tre them one stages so far but they all went full risk on probably POG and yonas more so and that reflects in the final results as well like they were skiting out on through corners oh it was crazy but why would they why would POG be taking those insane risks he's getting the information into his ear as to the the time differences like it's not like he's completely in the dark and he's and he's says to himself I have to really push this cuz I have no idea where I'm standing at the moment you've got intermediate time checks like yeah the earpieces aren't always brilliant so and actually we did see him at one point point to his ear and kind of gesture maybe he didn't hear anything at all you're just going fall in a TT and I don't think he moderate when he decided he's going for the stage you're going fall for the stage also it does look sometimes a lot scarier on TV than it is in reality like you can skid out around a corner and you just got it wasn't actually that bad like if anyone spends time riding Offroad mountain bike or gravel like the bike moves under you quite a lot like the thing to realize as well when you watch these bike riders they're not the best bike riders in the world because you sit them on an indoor trainer on Ruby or zwift and they can bait out what they're the best bike rders in the world because they can go uphill because they can go downhill because they can ride Crosswinds they're phenomenal all around bike rers even we've criticized Remos descending over the past three weeks and it hasn't been topnotch but that's topnotch compared to the others like these are the 1% of the 1% so you know don't worry when they you know whip out the tail or skid a little bit on the corner it's well under control so run through some of the other results cuz Jorgenson for me pulled out another absolutely great roid as well today he was for on the day to go up to eight on GC sorry yeah when I saw Jorgenson he came over the line took off his helmet and as he took it off just like a waterfall of sweat King the helmets are interesting I'm sure there will be a million words written tomorrow about all of the helmets I don't think we'll bother going through we so let me go through the results on it because some of them are interesting 45 minute effort pugy won by a minute and three which is insane from yonas from Remco was 114 jorgens and great roid in Fort Almeida you know we know he's a great tester fifth Derek G won the standout R of the Tour of France or
One Stand Out Riders of the Tour of France pulling out with TT didn't know he capable of in sixth land lisimo were going wild and seventh uh like eight terd hega like he led for a long time for Manana but trago a great ride because that was important for GC for him move to the top 10 Yates again not noted for his time tring tent Lenny Martinez like there's some right here you wouldn't expect would have expected to see Victor Carpenter a little higher but parkour is a bit hilly for him was a bit of an up and down and I think after that there seems to be big dip offs the one for me which was an absolutely terrible ride was Carlos Rodriguez back in 17th lost 352 like 352 he is in El's best GC Rider like 352 on one stage to pogacha like that's an insane margin to lose over three weeks never mind in a 45 minute effort but okay so I think that result from pagach was insane even two minutes behind yonas like like is 103 but yeah but he was 2 minutes behind yonas still even if wasn't in you know it's still 2 minutes which is a huge huge margin yeah it's it's crazy inas yeah come on Lads pull your socks up so what I noticed and if I was yonas on the Finish Line yonas just got across the Finish Line there wasn't much separation from yonas and the UAE team and UAA team it was pretty like it was pretty cork off celebrations it was like all the team there yellow t-shirts not that there's nothing wrong with they won the Tour to France they definitely should be celebrating but yonus took mental notes there he was taking mental notes and he was like you remember Rocky 4 where he was fighting Ivan Drago and he had the picture of Drago the mirror and he like crunches it up that's Hest this winter he has taken a mental note of that moment of those Lads celebrating and that's going to be his motivation on shitty days to ride the extra kilometers I can really see that being a powerful motivator for yeah that was it was a cool moment though when H pogy came over and his teammates were there and as you said all dressed in yellow they yellow k on it it looked awesome I'm so happy for for P's a show man and I wonder does this shape the media perception cuz they're too all now as we say but the media perception seems to be so much tilted in favor of paga over yonas and we seen pogy coming in with the tree fingers behind his back to symbolize my t tour to France win we would never see those type of gestures from yonas pogy plays the social media game you know that's going to get clipped ipped out and it's going to get shared around millions of views on Tik Tok and Instagram reals I wonder how much that shapes our perception of the two oh I totally agree but like I think that Tad is yeah he's a smart guy I don't know if he's even he's so young he's 23 24 he's going to be looking if he's even looking Beyond cycling at this stage but Tad is going to be a old he not 25 maybe yeah but he is going to be a superstar for his entire life and he's going to have a career Beyond on the bike he is going to go places because of that showman personality because he's outspoken because he's fun and yonas yeah he's always going to be a hero but I just can't see him having that kind of I think I like yonas more after the but next year if yonas is dominant you'll probably switch back to yeah I hated Jonas after the wela we're not going to get into it but I hat him after the wela last year and SE Co roog glitch wasn't a fan yeah yeah so there was no chance today of this yesterday there was a lot of over and back um about tday that how dominant he was do you think he can ever replicate this performance or this form again I mean all the stages that he won how dominant he was that explosivity is that can he maintain that well it's historic it's unprecedent well it's not unprecedented but it's almost unprecedented 1998 pantani Dono tour double we're Midway through the season you know zurro tour's gone he's won boat afterwards like let me find one of the quotes towards the end Vander Paul looks good in the world Champs Jersey but I want to take it from him if he takes that from him no one's ever done that since 1987 when our very own Steven roach won the zuro the tour and the world championships in a single year so can he replicate this
Again well history would say no that it's never been replicated again that he's into totally foreign territory here everything's gone right you rarely get through a year s such a dangerous sport pogy hasn't got a super cramped calendar but he's still plugging in and racing to Catalonia here Classics there we seen wel going down we seen rogl just loves hitting the deck you know the memes come out like days since a workplace accident zero like you know pugy last year broke his hand it's a dangerous sport so I would say to get such a good run into it and everything to line up where you know mentally he seems in a good spot teams in a good spot it would be very difficult to replicate this again I hope he does because it's going to just keep firing this crazy rivalry we have the biggest ever in sport yeah absolutely amazing will we get some reaction from after the stage yeah let me know what pogy saying okay pogy said I am super happy I cannot describe how happy I am after two hard years in the tur of France always some mistakes and this year everything went to Perfection this is the first Grand Tour where I was totally confident every day even in the jro I had one Bad Day this year CH of France was just amazing I just couldn't let anyone down so I was enjoying today for them also yeah and as you said he also made that comment about the world the world uh Champs Jersey so that's a cheap and Olympics is there as well the Olympics yeah H gmet wrapped up the green jersey yesterday as we said on the Finish Line he said wearing the green jersey is an honor the symbol of a sprinter this is a new dream come true to be honest I didn't come into this race with ambition just came here to show I'm not a bad Rider I'm grateful to have today it's the most amazing day of my life and Jorgenson who I'd flagged out as I thought it was an amazing ride today and he seems to be a guy actually loved his comment yesterday where he took the mountains points on kopaz just for the crack I thought that was brilliant and I've warmed him so much since that H he said and kind of a tip to yonas that I've learned so much from yonas his mental strength his work EIC it's impressive he's one of the best writers in the world for a reason he works super hard and he's a really humble guy I'm proud he honest to be second in Tour of France after what he's been through this year it's epic and just to go back as well to gmet I did see online uh at the presentation his wife and his his baby girl were there and they were in the National kind of traditional dress of Eritrea and it just looked absolutely there's a 40 party kicking off right now we're get to playing tonight and we can't but get a little quote from Cavendish he said I think I got most of the emotions out of the way yesterday that's when he had that huge battle to fight against the time cut in the mountains and he said I kind of enjoyed today okay I couldn't go easy but I knew if I got to the top of the climb by a certain point I'd be all right for the time limit so I could just do that then I could really enjoy it I was enjoying counting down the kilometers seeing the flam Rouge for the last time and seeing my family across the Finish Line it was very very nice wow that's really powerful and uh yeah so let me run through everyone knows the GC but I'll just run through the main classifications very briefly pogy has won the Tour to France 80 hours 38 minutes 6 Minute 17 second lead from yonas Remco tops out the podium Almeida Fort Mikel Landa fifth the lisimo points gmet yasper philipson Brian conard mountains carapaz great roide from them pogacha and yonas okay so as we kind of say Ad you what do you think can you give a highlight even a couple of highlights of the tour this year yeah I think it's Cavendish it's Cavendish breaking the record I'm I go back and forth on Cavendish I'm not the biggest Cavendish fan in the world but it's cool to witness history live and I'm very invested in Cavendish you know Mer's 34 stage wins I've seen absolutely zero of those stage wins of Cavs 35 I've probably seen and you know the HTC days when he just had that amazing lead out train the ups and downs of my bahin announcing in gum afterwards to cut ball and cry this could be my last race you feel quite invested as a fan into cavendish's story so
To see him you know nail that iconic 35th win and owe cyclist a penny does he with regards to just entertainment and what he's given to cycling as when you look at mainstream appeal and trying to bring people into like it's still a really Niche Sport and what we do is so Niche and to try and get it out there to a broader public audience Netflix is doing an amazing job but Cav is a brand in himself you know Nike monster he's a Cavendish documentary on Prime you know he's been amazing for the sport yeah I think for me the highlights and I say this every year are the those super domestics because I've have such a big place in my heart for these guys who turn themselves inside out just to get their team Le like a couple of hundred meters more a couple of meters they just eek out the very last piece of energy they have for their team leaders so like Jorgenson cair like Neils pilot like all of those guys are just they they always just highlight for me in every single Grand Tour so shapo to them okay so do we think that Pacha I know you're not you said don't talk about this this is not something that we need to start this whole narish of about again but do you think pagach is after cavendish's record this is stupid question I hate it it's like are we going to ask this every single year now for the rest of the Tour of France so Cav has 35 wins Mer's 34 he know's 28 like he can go way down the list to find pogacha on 16 wins he's 19 wins to draw level wav now he won six this year but he's averaging just under four a year which is absolutely amazing but he would need to have the that average maintained for the next 5 years and with that yonas rivalry five more years at that level it's just very very hard to see yeah but he doesn't have to always be a GC Rider he could turn into you know towards the end of his c p on 40 kilograms of start sprinting no but he could be uh no that's not what I'm saying but he could just become a stage hunter in the last few years of his career it could it could happen HED for stages still I just don't see the GC Lads transition to Stage hunting I just see it unless he goes full Eddie mck on it and you know the cannibal talk eight stages in one tour to France so if he goes full Eddie Ms maybe he can do it but no can we park that conversation at least for another four editions of the S of France come back to no no this is going to be spoken about constantly until for another 11 11 months one week until we start the tour to France all over again folks this has been a vintage edition of the Tour of France and we've written another page in the history books of this iconic rivalry between pogacha and vinard the Tour of France is over but the ran podcast isn't we're back tomorrow with an amazing interview from gravel Superstar Dylan Johnson we're going to be back again later in the week myself and Sarah for ruer support and then next week we have the Olympic coverage starting so take a second and subscribe to the channel should be down here somewhere and if you want more of us right now there's another video up here which I know you love thanks for tuning in talk soon
